It’s that time of year at MP 105 — the rhubarb is going absolutely wild.
We have three plants that were here long before we arrived, established and thriving on Kenai Peninsula soil through who knows how many Alaska winters. Since then we’ve been propagating from seed, transplanting the best starts around the property. We’re now at ten well-established plants, and this season most of them are putting on a serious show.

The seed stalks this year are something else — tall, heavy, and loaded. If you’ve never seen a mature rhubarb plant go to seed, it’s honestly a pretty spectacular sight. Each stalk throws off hundreds of seeds in these dense, papery clusters that catch the light beautifully in the evening sun.

Today we pulled some stalks for Sherri’s first attempt at a rhubarb BBQ sauce — something we’ve been wanting to try for a while. If it turns out the way we think it will, it’ll be making an appearance in the Ravenswood Gardens store soon.
Kenai Peninsula Rhubarb Seeds — Coming Soon

Here’s something we’re excited about: we’re going to be offering seeds from our established plants.
These aren’t seeds from a catalog. They’re from plants that have proven themselves through Kenai Peninsula winters — cold-hardy, established, and thriving at Milepost 105 on the Sterling Highway. If you’re gardening in a cold climate, that provenance matters.
We’ll be offering seed packets through the store at store.ravenswoodgardens.com soon. Keep an eye out.
Ravenswood Gardens is a small homestead on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. We grow what we can, preserve what we grow, and share what we have.
